Meet the Program Coordinators for Discovery!
Chamarla Brame
Schools: Flat Shoals Elementary, The Kindezi School and Sagamore Hills Elementary
Chamarla Brame graduated from Xavier University of Louisiana in 2010 with a degree in Chemistry and minor in education. She is currently serving her second year as an Americorps member and her first as a Discovery Program Coordinator. She loves working with children and making a difference in her community.
Schools: Intown Academy and Hutchinson Elementary School
Khadijah Austin is a recent graduate from Agnes Scott College in Decatur, GA. There she received her BA in history and now plans to go back to school to get her Masters in Teaching. Khadijah was a mentor at W.D. Muhammad High School’s Sister to Sister program for 3 years and worked and volunteered as a camp counselor at Camp Believers in Atlanta, Georgia. Now she is serving her 1st year with AmeriCorps and Hands on Atlanta.
Schools: Liberty Point Elementary School and Parklane Elementary School
Tammy Dixon, an Atlanta native, is a graduate of Georgia State University, there she received her BS in Criminal Justice. Tammy taught adult education in the Atlanta Public School District for five years and now is serving her 1st year with Americorps and Hands on Atlanta in the Discovery program. Also in her spare time she enjoys welding and deep sea fishing.
Whitney Langley
Schools: Mimosa Elementary, Oakview Elementary School
Whitney Langley is a native of Durham, North Carolina. She recently graduated from Spelman College with her B.A. in Early Childhood Education. This is her first year as an AmeriCorps member, serving at Hands on Atlanta. She will return to school in the Spring to work towards her Masters in Early Childhood Education.
Schools: Thomasville Elementary School and Boyd Elementary School
Tessa Schussler is serving her second year with AmeriCorps and her first with the Discovery Program. Tessa graduated from Georgia Tech in 2010 and has since dedicated herself to serving others. She plans to start Graduate school next fall for her Masters in Social Work. In her spare time, Tessa enjoys watching movies, reading, and traveling as much as she can.
Marcia Webb-Hayes
Schools: Parkside Elementary School, and Belmont Hills
Marcia A. Webb Hayes is an AmeriCorps alum having just recently completed a two-years as a service member with Hands On Atlanta School Based Programs. In this new role of AmeriCorps Program Coordinator for the Discovery Program she can build upon the experiences garnered as a School and Grade Captain while at Gideons Elementary School during 2009-2010. Over the last ten years she has supervised AmeriCorps and VISTA members, served on various educational leadership boards and coordinated numerous community building events. Marcia enjoys traveling, shopping, entertaining conversations and building capacity however it presents itself.
