Marian Young & Kathy Ollivier Thomasville Heights Elementary

Marian Young
In April of 2009, Marian co-founded Academic and Cultural Enrichment.  ACE is a charitable non-profit dedicated to enhancing the lives of children/students in the most at risk areas of Atlanta.  With the help of Hands on Atlanta and the Discovery Program, we have been able to successfully bring educational enrichment to the students at Thomasville Heights Elementary School in Atlanta for the past 2 years.    Hands on Atlanta has the ability to bring in the volunteers and materials needed to run the Discovery program successfully.

Marian received a degree in Education and has worked in and outside of the classroom including serving in multiple leadership capacities while breaking single year area fundraising records, coordinating Girl Scout participation in cultural events and serving as role model and mentor to young girls in the Atlanta Chapter of the Girl Scouts of America.  While raising two children, she served as president, vice president and treasurer consecutively of the Gwinnett County Parent Teacher Association.  She was elected and served on the Local School Advisory Committee for Gwinnett County Schools.

Working with the students and families at Thomasville Heights has not only enhanced their lives, it has greatly enhanced mine; thanks to the Discovery Program.

Kathy Ollivier       Since 2009, Kathy Ollivier has been a co-founder of Academic & Cultural Enrichment (ACE), a charitable, tax-exempt, 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to exposing children to educational and cultural activities in some of Atlanta's most at-risk neighborhoods.  ACE works closely with the Hands On Atlanta Discovery program.  Kathy’s involvement with the Discovery program was the result of seeing first-hand the plight of so many children in Atlanta while getting out the vote in these at-risk neighborhoods during the 2008 presidential campaign.

A native of Texas, Kathy received her undergraduate degree in secondary education from the University of Texas and went on to earn her master’s degree in secondary education from the University of North Texas.  Her advocacy for children from all backgrounds has led her to teaching in the public schools, co-founding a private school, sponsoring a cottage at a children’s home, tutoring a number of children in need, leading church children’s programs, and supporting a shelter for the victims of domestic violence.

Coupled with her activities for children, Kathy also spent 27 years in the computer software business prior to her retirement as a director of the Southeast and Midwest in 2004.
